My research

My current research interests reside in an area known as conformal field theory. In particular, I study connections between vertex operator algebras (VOAs) and various automorphic forms. Interesting questions arise in this area for a number of reasons. For one, requirements stemming from physics often motivate seeking the presence of certain automorphic forms in the theory of VOAs. Other times, the theory of VOAs will inspire new automorphic forms to be studied, or in contrast, the theory of automorphic forms will provide insight into the inner working of the representation theory of VOAs. For this reason (among many others), I find this area of study particularly fascinating.

Some more specific areas of interest are:

  • Representation theory of vertex operator algebras.
  • Applications of automorphic forms in the theory of VOAs.
  • Modular, Jacobi, and Siegel modular forms.
  • Multivariable trace functions in VOAs.

Past affiliations

Before Sacramento, I lived in Germany where I worked in the Mathematical Institute at the University of Cologne. Prior to this, I was a JSPS Postdoctoral Fellow in the Institute of Mathematics at the University of Tsukuba in Japan. Before that, I spent one year as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. I am a former PhD student of Geoffrey Mason at UC Santa Cruz, and attended UCLA during my undergraduate studies.
