Alzheimer’s disease is a brain disorder named after a German physician Alois Alzheimer who first described the disorder in 1906. Alzheimer’s is a fetal and progressive disease that destroys brain cells which in return causes problems with memory, with other symptoms including confusion, anger, mood swings, and language breakdowns. Unfortunately there is no known cure for the disease.

Effects of Alzheimer’s on the patient:
Alzheimer’s mainly affects the memory of the patient. Short term memory lose is very common among diagnosed Alzheimer patients. Old memories, and brain functions on how to do things like eating aren’t affected as much. As the disease progresses, memory problems worsen, use of language becomes noticeably difficult for the patient. Patients can even develop delusional symptoms.
Effects on family and caregivers:
Studies have shown that Alzheimer’s can have an effect on the patients family and caregiver psychologically, economically, and functionality. Caregivers have to accommodate the patients in their own homes. Changing their living styles and environment so the patients can function. Whether it be putting locks on cabinets, door, hazardous material, and making sure the patient cant harm themselves.
