In today’s society, the majority of American’s are increasingly becoming overweight and obese. The concept of wanting things done “fast” and right away have caused us to be lazy and opt for faster and convenient methods such as eating “fast foods” while neglecting to exercise or do any form of mild or moderate exercise. My web page will address a few things people can do to shed those extra pounds of weight from their bodies. This site may not change the world’s obesity problem but hopefully it can help some people reach their attainable goals in the near future.
Below are a few steps to help aide in your goals to weight loss.
List/Explanation of steps towards weight loss
1. Eat Smarter, Not Lesser
When people eat lesser or “diet”, they are limiting their body on a daily, weekly and even monthly basis. This is very unhealthy because it does cause weight loss in the short term but ONCE they start to eat regular foods and increase their calorie intake, they will start to gain that lost weight back FASTER than the time they took to lose the weight. This is referred to as the yo-yo effect. Instead of eating lesser, eat the same calories you normally would EXCEPT smaller portions broken up into MORE meals per day. This way you are not limiting your calories and starving yourself but maintaining your metabolism, refueling your body throughout the day and burning fat/weight faster.
2. Exercise
Many people fail to realize that even the “little things” add up when it comes to losing weight. If you’re normally a couch potato who sits all day and does almost no form of physical activity, even something as easy as walking around your neighborhood once a day will greatly improve your body’s weight loss potential. Remember…even doing a few sit-ups once a day adds up greatly in the course of a week, month or a year. By increasing your physical activity by any amount will result in weight loss so go out there and exercise.
3. Increase your Metabolism
Majority of people believe that “diets” work but by starving their body of natural foods and calories, they are retraining their body to burn calories at a much slower rate which in turn DECREASES their metabolism. By maintaining your calorie intake or increasing it, you are also increasing your metabolism and improving your body’s calorie burning potential.
4. Consume Protein
Protein has many benefits including rebuilding muscle fibers and muscle tissues. It is also a great KEY to weight loss. By consuming more protein on a daily basis (preferably half your weight in grams to your body’s weight in grams, if you workout often), you are increasing muscles in your body which leads to greater weight loss. Every extra pound of muscle you have gained is going to further burn excess calories your body does not need.
There are many foods that are rich in protein but majority of a person’s protein comes from meats such as fish, chicken, beef and pork. I prefer sticking with fish, eggs or chicken since they are the healthier choices. However, if you’re a vegetarian or you don’t have time to eat these foods, you need a good source of protein from supplements or protein powders. These will help assist your body in consuming at least half your body’s weight in grams of protein. A good place to shop for protein supplements or powders for me is www.gnc.com.
Hopefully by following these steps, you will….
- Lose a few pounds a week with proper nutrition and exercise
- Slowly increase your body’s metabolism over a short period and sustain that increased metabolism.
- Have a more active and healthier lifestyle leading to more energy and happiness throughout the day.
