Hiistory

Mongolian history began with the Paleolithic Age or 700,000 years ago, but the name Mongolia became known since 12th century AD. In 1206s AD, Mongolian state was formed based on nomadic tribal groupings under the leadership of Genghis Khan. He and his immediate successors conquered nearly all of Asia and Russia and sent armies as far as central Europe and Southeast Asia. Genghis Khan's grandson Kublai Khan, who conquered China and established the Yuan dynasty (1279-1368 AD). Mongolia became independent since 1921 from Machurian (Now China) Colony. Natural resources: Coal (thermal and metallurgical), copper, molybdenum, silver, iron, phosphates, tin, nickel, zinc, wolfram, fluorspar, gold, uranium, and petroleum.

Agriculture (20.6% of 2007 GDP, livelihood for about 40% of population): Products--livestock and byproducts, hay fodder, vegetables.

Industry (36% of 2007 GDP, includes mining 27.4%, manufacturing 6.1%, and utilities (electricity, gas, and water) 2.5%): Types--Minerals (primarily copper and gold), animal-derived products, building materials, food/beverage.

Original Mongolian Dishes

The traditional Mongolian Cuisine primarily consists of dairy products and meat (including beef, sheep and horse meat). The Mongolians sustain their lives directly from the products of their animals. Meat is either cooked, used as an ingredient for soups or dumplings, or dried for winter ("Borts"). Milk and cream are used to make a variety of beverages, as well as cheese and other dairy products. "Mongolian Barbeque" and "Mongolian beef or pork" are not original Mongolian cousines. For more information see the links below.

Popular Products

Mongolia has a strong history of locally produced goods, based on locally available resources. Main sources are from extensive agriculture, husbandry and forestry origin which are manufactured into a basic range of consumer goods like dairy and wheat products, wool, cashmere and leather garments, felt products, carpets, skins and hides, traditional furniture and natural and healthy foodstuffs. The most popular cashmere product manufacturers are the Gobi amd Altai.
