HW means homework and the exercises listed  as homework must be turned in. PP means Practice Problems and you don't need to turn them in. However, it is very important to solve them and ask questions if  you don't understand something. Also, the examples in the textbook and their solutions are highly important. Read and understand them before begin working on the practice and homework problems.
