Building the Essay


There are a number of interesting videos/slideshows giving advice about writing at Broome Community College. You can access this body of work directly at the Broome CC Webpage for their Writing Center. Select the topic that interests you to read about different types of writing, how to avoid plagiarism, the elements of style, and so on.

You can view Broome's resources for writers as movies from the iTunes Store. Here is the path to these videos:

Download iTunes (free download from http://www.apple.com/iTunes) if you don't have it on your computer already.

Once you have installed the iTunes program, open it, and go to the iTunes Store:   iTunes_Store

Scroll to the bottom of the iTune Store page and you will see a link to iTunes U.

Select >Universities & Colleges in the upper right set of iTunes U Quick Links.

Select >Broome Community College

At the Broome CC site select >Academic ContentAcademic Content BroomeCC

Scroll down to the category English at the bottom of the page and select >Writing:

English_Writing


The video of most interest for essay writing is The Structure of the Formal Essay (#5):

Get_movie

Click on the >Get Movie button to download to your own computer. (The educational movies are mostly free.)

The movie will now be saved in your personal Library in the  iTunes U section. Click on the link to see the movie at any time.

Return to the iTunes Store from your program and select the >iTunes U link at the bottom of the page to find other free educational podcasts on thousands of subjects.
