Week 4
As a group we go together and began to decide on which software program we were going to use. I then started doing some research and the different options available. I first stared with internet research but I found that hands-on-research is more beneficial. So at this point I started to play around with the software, using the help tool to answer any of my questions. I also was fortunate to have a co-worker that is proficient in the Dreamweaver program. She showed me how to link the pages together and how to do the formatting in code. We started to brainstorm because we needed a topic. Our group decided to go with sports. We decided to call our website “The Sports spot.” We started to sketch a blueprint of what we wanted our web pages to look like. We came up with colors and themes and different layouts, until we finally all decided on one. It is actually hard for our group to all meet at the same time because most of us commute to and from campus every week and we also all have conflicting job schedules. But we all managed to decide on a topic.
Week 5
Our group met in the computer lab to do the 1st part of the assignment. The web analysis was submitted to the old instructor. Then we got a new instructor whom we had to resubmit the web analysis to. As a class I think we all encountered difficulties and obstacles. With a new teacher thrown at us during the last week and ½ of the class we were not sure what to expect. For example we didn’t know the grading criteria that the new teacher would use when grading the assignment. We were unsure about the deadlines and what exactly was expected for this assignment.
After talking with the new teacher and other students I think we were able to figure out the deadlines and what was expected.
Week 6
We managed to all meet at the computer lab not always all at the same time, to complete this assiagnment. We struggled at first, not knowing exactly what we were doing. None of us had ever built a web page before. After watching Professor Spiros show us how to use frontpage, I understood the assignment a little better. However he did not show us how to use dreamweaver. As a group for the most part we used dreamweaver to build our website. I think dreamweaver is a very useful tool. We first had to choose a template at first I didn’t like the template that my group chose but once I began to build one of the pages I changed my mind. The template we used goes with our topic of sports. It has a place to put pictures and all sorts of other different links. I think everyone in the group was stressed out over this project because this was such a short class and we still had to study for the final exam. I think we really didn’t have enough time in the semester to complete such detailed and complicated projects. I think the summer course should have been limited to one project.
In the end we managed to get everything done as a group!
