Nancy Sweet earned her Ph.D. at Columbia University in 2005. She has published articles on Herman Melville, James Fenimore Cooper, Catharine Maria Sedgwick, and Lydia Maria Child. Her dissertation, "Chaste Rebellion: The Disobedient Daughter in Antebellum Literature" examines the paradigm of virtuous dissent in mid-nineteenth century American literature. Professor Sweet currently teaches classes on American Literature at California State University, Sacramento.
