This internship provides graduate students with hands-on experience in teaching literature. All 410F interns assist CSUS professors in large undergraduate lecture classes. In addition to attending their assigned undergraduate class, interns will also attend bi-weekly seminar meetings with their peers and with Prof. Sweet, the Internship Coordinator for Spring '08. Note: Although Engl 410F is scheduled for TR 3-415, interns will meet with the Internship Coordinator only every other Tuesday. For Spring '08, interns will be placed in one of the following courses: Engl 40B British Literature II (TR 12-115 Toise); Engl 50B American Literature II (TR 430-545 Lee-Keller).
During bi-weekly meetings with Prof. Sweet, interns will discuss and practice preparing teaching materials (i.e., lesson plans, quizzes, midterms, essay assignment prompts, quickwrite prompts), conducting classroom discussions about literature, handling difficult classroom situations, responding to and marking undergraduate writing, and devising a syllabus for an undergraduate literature survey course.
To be placed in English 410F, interns must submit a placement form and receive permission from the undergraduate instructor-of-record. Interested students should contact Prof. Sweet.
