Hello People!
Welcome to a piece of my world!
I am currently a Criminal Justice major and should be graduating with my Bachelors in the Fall of 2011
I graduated from River City Highschool in West Sacramento although i did not go there all four years
i have been at Sac State since i graduated in 2007 from RC
I went to school in Mexico one semester of every school year up until my freshman year in high school, and I was homeschooled starting my second semester of freshman year and went back to normal school my senior year
Unfortunately for me! this made me be enrolled in two different schools for my second semester my freshman year because I was home schooled and attending school in Mexico at the same time.
.
When most people think about kids that are homeschooled you think "ok this kid must be a loser and got picked on like crazy, or she was a bad child and shouldn't be around other student".
Well neither of these was the reason why I was homeschooled.
I actually did it because my family traveled so much, my parents like to go to Mexico a lot since they both have their family there.
This caused problems when it came to school and making up units since we were gone for months at a time and the "Prepa" (High schoo) was about an hour’s drive, in my town there’s only schools that go up will ninth grade and then you graduate.
So the logical reason was to homeschool me
At the moment I hated it because I would much rather be in Sacramento having fun and going to public school, than being in Mexico having to do double the work because of my parents.
Now i actually feel really grateful that my parents made me go and live there so long and be able to experience life without all the commodities you have here.
Where I'm from in Mexico there is no such thing as internet or cellphones some families don’t even have cars, if you want to get a hold of someone and your too lazy to walk you better be ready to yell for them really loud.
There is no such thing as Movie theatres, shopping malls, parks or anything else for that matter. The kids in the town looked forward to events that the teachers planned for us and these did not come too often either. Mother’s day, El Dia Del Nino (Children’s Day) and Father’s day are the most waited on, also the Fair, which only last nine days, but the all-time favorite for the people in town old and young, is winter break. This is the time of the year in which the most people come visit and everyone’s families come home, sometimes we would get lucky and the circus would make it all the way to town, but this didn't happen too often.
Mostly we spent our time at school or hanging out in the afternoons at the "arcade" which consisted of a couple old game machines. Kids learn how to ride horses and their fun is racing against each other. They also learn how to do tricks with ropes and show off every chance they get. You see kids as small as 4 years old walking around with a piece of rope twirling it around and little kids on donkeys trying to race each other. For a while we played soccer against the neighboring town, it didn’t last long though, we discovered the teams would fight way too much .I would join everyone else and be part of the fun, but I had an advantage over other kids in town, my dad bought us ATVs so we wouldn’t be bored, and put satellite TV in our house. There are families that don’t even own a TV let alone Satellite TV. Life in Mexico is very laid back and Stress Free, but this doesn’t mean it’s easy.
Many people live day by day with their money, men get paid what equals to about twenty dollars a day and everything costs as much as it does here. But in spite of this people continue to live happy, people appreciate every blessing they receive and even though money is short they don’t give up. People grow most of their food and raise cows and chickens so that if the money is missing at least there is something to eat. In my town there is no such thing as starving people or kids with no shoes because the whole community comes together to help each other. I think this is my favorite part of having lived there. My parents taught me to help the less fortunate and not look down on them because it can be us in some point.
