Purchase OnMusic Appreciation (2nd Edition, 2007) with two compact disks from the Hornet Bookstore. If out at the bookstore, order directly from the Online Store at Connect for Education. Com: Must be NEW! If defective, return to the bookst= ore for exchange or call Connect for Education.
Follow the directions inside the= CD case to start the course. Place CD= 1 (OMA1) in the disk drive and go to = www.icubedonline.com select register at the top of the page, = on next page select current student.<= span style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'> Fill in the CD-ROM Registration Form for Music 18 (Music Appreciation), che= ck course/section, and press Submit. You will receive an email message = that will contain the course site address, your chosen login and password, and a= few simple instructions.
Log on to www.icubedonline.org enter name and password; go to CD-= ROM Setup.

Lessons
and Assessments
The course contains 37 lessons a= nd 30 assessments on Basic Musical Concepts (6), The Building Blocks of Sound (14= ), The Organizing Elements of Music (7), and Historical Periods (12). Read each lesson carefully. Click on each highlighted word for music, definition or pronunciation especially those in the left hand column. There is an assessmen= t at the end of the chapter(s) of 5-10 questions. Although not significant in terms = of total grade for the class (5%), these same questions will be on the midterm= and final exams. While testing co= vers the major points of the lessons, some questions have been included to check= for thorough reading of the material. After beginning an assessment, you cannot look back to the chapter material, so a suggestion would be to print the chapter before taking an assessment. Also, incorrect spelling, tense or capitalization will result in a wrong answer. It is recommended that you complet= e the lesson assignments for this course in a timely manner so that you will be p= repared for the midterm and final exams. <= o:p>
Examinations
The Midterm Exam contains 70 que= stions taken directly from Lesson Quizzes 1-21.&n= bsp; The Final Exam contains 80 questions taken from Lesson Quizzes 22-40. Each examination count= s 30% of the final grade. If you wi= sh to finish the course earlier than scheduled, contact the instructor to reset t= he examinations.
Assignments
Read the assignment carefully and
provide an answer for each part of the question. Responses that are comprehensive a=
nd
provide the most correct, detailed information receive the higher grades.
There are three concert attendance reports th=
at
are required for this course. You will
need to attend a serious music concert, which may include orchestra, band,
choir, chamber, soloist or jazz. All concerts (but not master classes or
lectures) produced by the CSUS Department of Music (www.csus.edu/musi=
c) are available for this report. In special
circumstances, other concerts may be approved by prior arrangement with your
instructor.
Your Assignment
Attend a concert =
and,
during the performance, write words/ sentence fragments on the program that=
provides
a description/analysis of each selection of music. Areas that might be described are
melody, harmony, rhythm and form.
To be accepted for credit, the program must be stamped by the usher =
at
the conclusion of the concert, together with your printed name, section and
signature. Keep a copy for yo=
ur
records.
The online program will not be utilized for t=
he
submission of the concert report Please submit the program by placi=

on the class syllabus. In spe=
cial
circumstances, the program may be mailed or scanned and attached to an
email. Late reports will be
accepted with the reduction of one letter grade.
