I am 22 years old and currently a Junior at
CSUS. My hobbies include playing video games,
listening to music, playing with my pets, and reading. I work at a small card room in
Rancho Cordova called Rancho's Club.
My official title is Thrid Party Proposition Player.
About my job:
I observe Blackjack and Pai Gow tables as well as gamble! Well not really. If you take a Vegas dealer and cut them
in half (not literally) you get the part that deals the cards and then you get the part
that does all of the payouts. I do all of the payouts. I work for a corporation
that banks the game. How can I be sitting on a Backjack table in Rancho Cordova you ask?
(Since gambling is illegal in California) Simple.
It is illegal to gamble against the house but it is legal for the players to play against
each other the way to go around this rule is by not having
the "house" bank the game, the house being the casino or card room,and having a private
(hence the third party part) corporation bank the game. The bank is offered to everyone on
the table so that we do not "monopolize" the ability to bank the game. The thing is that
most people do not have the time or money to sit there all day and try to bank the game.
Banking the game basically means that you are playing the dealers hand and you are playing
against all of the other players on the table. Another thing that's a bit diferent from Vegas
is that we play "No Bust Blackjack". This Blackjack is different in that if the player Busts
at 23 he/she still has a chance to push, not win. If the dealer
busts at 24 then you push!
But if the dealer busts at 23 or less, then the player loses.
With that said if the dealer busts at 22
and you busted then you automatically lose. Because 22 is the
lowest a dealer can bust at. The negative part about the game is that even if you get
"Blackjack" you do not automatically win and you do not get paid one and a half.
If the dealer gets a 21 then you push.
As far as Pai Gow goes that's a whole different game. To learn that you'll have to go to
