Polar Bears 101
Polar bears have been in and out of the indangered species list for years.
The main threat to polar bears is the loss of their habitat. Polar bears live in icy habitiats with fish as their main energy resorce.
It is the world's largest carnivore species found on land. It is also the largest bear.
Polar bears are most active the first third of the day and least active the final third of the day. Like humans, polar bears walk on the soles of their feet with their heels touching the ground first. Like other bears, they can also stand on their hind feet and walk upright for short distances.
Polar bears are in danger beacuse of global warming and the green house effect.
in 2008, the Department of Interior reclassified the polar bear as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act, due to loss of ice in their habitat.
