OPTIONAL EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENT

I have come across another CSUS event that will give you a third and final opportunity for extra credit in this class.

REDWOOD ROOM, UNIVERSITY UNION

12 NOON – 2 P.M.

Camille Cooper:  The Truth about American Beauty.  “In a dynamic and empowering presentation, a program described by the students and educators who have viewed it as ‘shocking,’ ‘uplifting,’ and ‘a relief,” Camille Cooper delivers a unique, humorous and insightful look at the media industry obsessed wit thinness and beauty.  Ms. Cooper has co-chaired the Committee for the Empowerment of Young Women since 1994, and has lectured across the country, educating and encouraging young women to questions what they see, to define themselves by their abilities and their dreams, and to take action to promote positive change."

Your assignment is to go to the event and do a 2-3 page write-up of it.  Give a run-down on who attended, etc., but for the most part discuss and respond to what was said in the presentation.  If possible, relate Camille Cooper's ideas to our class discussions on gender and the media.

This assignment is worth a maximum of five points, and is due no later than Tuesday, April 12.
