Homework for Tuesday, 3/1/05

Option 1:  Interview a person with an ethnic (non-white) background.  What kind of pressure has that person felt to fit in with American society?  Have they had to change anything about their appearance/personality/behavior in order to live up to American ideals?  If so, how does that make them feel?  Be prepared to briefly talk about your interview in class.

Option 2:  Find images/ads/articles from a newspaper, magazine, etc. that illustrate how people of ethnic backgrounds might feel pressure to live up to the American (or white) ideal.  Be prepared to talk briefly about the significance of what you bring in on Tuesday.
