Homework for Thursday, 3/3

If you were absent on Tuesday, 3/1, be sure to come to class prepared with the following homework assignment.  Please choose to do ONE of the following four options:

1. You have now been assigned essay #2, which asks you to compare and contrast the melting pot and salad bowl views of America, and to make a decision about which is a better fit for American society.  In preparation for Thursday’s class, I would like you to do the following:

Make a list of the BENEFITS of living in a MELTING POT society.  You can draw both from the readings and from your own personal experience when making your list. 

You are expected to make a list in favor of a melting pot society regardless of your personal viewpoint.  Be ready to discuss and turn in your list on Thursday.

2. You have now been assigned essay #2, which asks you to compare and contrast the melting pot and salad bowl views of America, and to make a decision about which is a better fit for American society.  In preparation for Thursday’s class, I would like you to do the following:

Make a list of the DISADVANTAGES of living in a MELTING POT society.  You can draw both from the readings and from your own personal experience when making your list. 

You are expected to make a list against a melting pot society regardless of your personal viewpoint.  Be ready to discuss and turn in your list on Thursday.
