How to Overcome Obesity in The World Today

Obesity is simply defined as abnormal or excessive fat that may impair health. In adults, obesity is considered to be a BMI (body mass index) greater than or equal to 30. Some of the main causes of obesity today is the imbalance of calories consumed and calories exerted, increased intake of high energy foods, lack of physical activity, changes in transportation and increasing urbanization.

Problem

In 2016, more than 1.9 billion adults are overweight and of these 650 million adults were obese.

Over 340 million children and adolescents aged 5-19 were overweight or obese in 2016.

Worldwide, obesity has nearly tripled between 1975 and 2016. Overweight and obesity are linked to more deaths than underweight and 40 million children under the age of 5 were overweight or obese in 2018.
