IMPROVING YOUR TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS! |
The
problem: College
students have been struggling with anxiety and depression in recent years
more than ever before. Feeling overwhelmed with school plays a main part in
this decline in mental health. According to a study done by New York
University, about
49% of students questioned for the study reported feeling extreme levels of
stress on daily basis. This is a much higher percentage than ever found
before, which leads us to the question: what can these students do to improve
their mental health and reduce these feelings of anxiety? |

One
easy way:
cultivate better time management skills! |
So, what is time management anyway? According to Psychology Today, time management is “the ability
to plan and control how someone spends the hours in a day to effectively
accomplish their goals.” Now, how does this relate to the problems facing
college students today? Piedmont Technical College states that “90%
of college students procrastinate.” If this statistic is accurate, and
procrastination leads to stress and anxiety, then it is no wonder that so
many students struggle with it. With better time management skills, students
will not procrastinate as much, and therefore will not have as much anxiety! |
Here
are three ways that students can work to better their time management… |
|
|
|
Start
using a planner! Next
semester, keep track of all your assignments and social commitments in a
planner. This way, you’ll be organized and less likely to forget anything important.
This practice can increase your efficiency by up to 50%! |
Break
up your assignments! Next
semester, create a schedule that spreads projects over the span of time. This
makes large assignments seem less daunting and will ensure that you never
leave anything to the last minute, improving the likelihood that you’ll turn
in the assignment by 30%! |
Take
a course! Some colleges
offer time management courses to their students, but if there are none
available at your school, you can always take one online. These courses can
increase your productivity by 40%! |
