CHILDHOOD OBESITY

DECREASING THE PERCENTAGE OF CHILDHOOD OBESITY STARTS WITH SCHOOLS PROMOTING A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

HOW DO SCHOOLS PROMOTE A HEALTHY LIFE STYLE?

o   Encourage students to drink more water throughout the day.
o   Create or update a local school wellness policy.
o   Make sure students are eating fruits especially at breakfast, but lunch as well.
o   Recommending vegetables and fruit for lunch.
o   All elementary and high schools should get a salad bar that includes fresh fruit and vegetables.
o   Make physical activity fun for students by encouraging tag or games at recess/lunch.
o  For older kids in High School they should have to walk/run 2-3 miles a week.

Studies predict that 57% of children will become obese by the time they’re in their mid 30’s
