Nithyakalyani carries out beach cleaning campaign, again | Daily News

The amount of plastic in our oceans continues to grow each day. There is a total of 269,000 tons of plastic that is suffocating the marine life and devasting the ecosystems. Sea birds and fish are dying at a rate of nearly 1.1 million a year because of plastics inside their stomachs and being strangled by them. By 2050 there could be more plastic by the ton, than that of fish.

Nonprofits such as Ocean Conservancy, Footprint Foundation and 4Ocean have fought back with large scale cleanup beach cleanup operations, and large nets on the ocean surface preventing the plastic from spreading further. The real change, however, can only come from everyday people who stop using single use plastics. Eliminating single use bottles, and bags will eventually help lead to a clean ocean. Be a part of the change and donate or volunteer, locally or begin to phase out the single use plastics in your life.
