Best is to produce
less plastic and to reuse plastic |
|||||
|
|
||||
Both
are processes for creating plastic: one
is from processing raw material such as crude oil another is from recycling
used plastic, but there is a big difference between both of these, cost. |

In 2018, only about 5% of the US plastic
waste was recycled. The US government themselves does not recycle but leaves
that duty to the companies. Companies themselves are looking to stay in
business and they are looking for profit. Recycling for the most part is not
profitable, especially unprofitable is recycling the most common plastics
like plastic bags and bottle caps. For companies, it is cheaper and
profitable to buy new plastic than to purchase and reuse recycled plastic.
Furthermore, leaving the recycling companies in the US with no one to sell
the recycled plastic to, both these cases are contributing to only about 5%
of the US plastic waste being recycled. Moreover, the US is the leading
plastic waste producer. |
|||||
Thereby we should
encourage the government to subsidize the recycling process and companies
and as consumers, we should vote with our money by purchasing products
from companies that reuse plastic instead of buying created new plastic,
who are also willing to take a cut from their profits for the better of our
Earth. |

Dove sells refill bags
of their hand soap, which they state cuts plastic waste by 80%. Instead of
repurchasing a whole new plastic bottle, better to reuse it and refill it. |

Colgate recently
introduced a new toothbrush with replaceable toothbrush heads. They claim
that plastic waste is reduced by 80%. Why throw away the whole toothbrush
when only the head needs to be replaced. |
