Generation Deaf |
Pictured above is ÒThe Paradox.Ó A stage
designed by the popular Dubstep Producer Excision and the sound system
company PK. It requires 150,000 watts to power the enormous speakers. |
|
WhatÕs the Cause? |
|
Acute hearing loss is inevitable. It happens
to all of us as we age, however it seems to be affecting our youth at a
dramatic rate. According to the Hearing Loss
Association of America (HLAA) the number of
children being diagnosed with hearing loss has increased by 30%. This has
effectively given us the distinction of the ÒDeaf GenerationÓ. There are
actually a lot of reasons for this, louder better quality speakers,
headphones that go inside your ear, and the amount of time we are listening
plays in also. |
|
How to Prevent it? |
|
|
Wearing earplugs at
concerts: Speakers are getting louder and louder every year and the music is
getting more and more intense. It is important to protect your ears in these
extreme conditions. |
Switching out your
apple headphones for some external ones. Anything that close to your eardrum
can cause significant damage without making much noise at all. There is a
reason our eardrum is protected and INSIDE our ear. |
|
|
The third tip is to only listen to music for
one hour at a time. After every 60 minutes give your ears a 5minute break.
Stressing your eardrums for an extended amount of time can do the same damage
as blasting loud music into your ear. ItÕs a muscle let it rest. |
