WhatÕs the Cause?

Acute hearing loss is inevitable. It happens to all of us as we age, however it seems to be affecting our youth at a dramatic rate. According to the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) the number of children being diagnosed with hearing loss has increased by 30%. This has effectively given us the distinction of the ÒDeaf GenerationÓ. There are actually a lot of reasons for this, louder better quality speakers, headphones that go inside your ear, and the amount of time we are listening plays in also.

How to Prevent it?

Wearing earplugs at concerts: Speakers are getting louder and louder every year and the music is getting more and more intense. It is important to protect your ears in these extreme conditions.

 

Switching out your apple headphones for some external ones. Anything that close to your eardrum can cause significant damage without making much noise at all. There is a reason our eardrum is protected and INSIDE our ear.

The third tip is to only listen to music for one hour at a time. After every 60 minutes give your ears a 5minute break. Stressing your eardrums for an extended amount of time can do the same damage as blasting loud music into your ear. ItÕs a muscle let it rest.
