The Pandemic That No One Cares About
The US obesity prevalence was 41.9% in 2017 – March 2020. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)
Why? |
How? |
Why should you
care? |
-Obesity is being normalized in
society. -Influencers preaching body positivty. -Being obese is viewed as
beauty. -No one cares about the
consequences. -America is a free country with
free will. -The idea of accepting yourself
for the way you are. |
-Fast food dominates the food industry. (most
fast food is high in sugar, salt, saturated fat, trans
fats, processed ingredients, and calories) -Lack of exercise. (Only 28% of Americans
are meeting physical activity guidelines set by the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention) -Too much sitting still. (The average American adult now
spends about 6½ hours a day sitting — an increase of about an hour a
day since 2007, Washington Post) |
-Serious health problems such as
type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, cancer, asthma, sleep apnea, kidney
stones, etc. -Mental health, “numerous
studies have shown a relationship between excess body weight and decreases in
quality of life…” -More obese population, more tax
dollars. “Obesity costs the US healthcare system nearly $173 billion a year”. -You and your children will be
left with no options. Fast foods everywhere, processed food on every shelf of
the supermarket. Soda will soon replace water… |
