The
internet is the right place to address this issue and work towards a solution
because the Farmers Protest is now the largest protest in history with over 250
million people participating worldwide. The only reason that is even possible
is with the help of the internet-primarily social media sources such as
Twitter and Instagram. By continuing to use the internet to raise awareness,
there would be more than 250 million people participating, with even more
sharing making the voices of the farmers be heard. |
FARMERS PROTEST The Indian Government passed three
farm bills aimed at deregulating farming, opening it up to exploitation by
large corporations. Farmers have been peacefully protesting in Dehli for over the 80 days without safety, proper
resources to combat harsh weather conditions and access to internet. During
the protests, police instigated violence and chaos by attacking peaceful
protestors. Protestors were met with barricades, batons, water cannons, tear
gas, and even bullets. Food and fresh water supply were cut off in attempt to
starve the farmers. Over 130 protestors have died, with more than 200 in
critical conditions. EXPLORE LINKS BELOW TO LEARN MORE |
How to Help: Reach out to local news outlets and slowly
move towards getting it covered on National Television. Share
short videos of the rallies worldwide and broadcast those as ads not only on
TV, but also on YouTube, Instagram, etc. Organize
more rallies. Reach
out to professors and educate them on the issues and try to get a couple of
moments during to class to mention. Share
as many links as possible of the organizations that are donating supplies in
order to ensure the farmers have necessities while being outside. Write
to local representatives and encourage them to use their position to reach
out to higher officials along with signing petitions that urges them to
repeal the laws. Partner
up with people to set up power lines by the protest sites so the journalists
can continue informing us and providing us with uncensored information. Create
a worldwide social media shutdown with hashtags incorporated in the protests
to make sure it ends up on explore pages, popular searches, etc. Use
visuals such as decals on cars with QR codes helps draw attention of the
public and leads them to do some research. |
