Beautiful Beardies and how to care for them

Have you ever dreamed of having a dragon as a kid? Well with Bearded Dragons, your dream can come true! Even though they don’t have real wings (you can fix that with a harness), Bearded Dragons are a fun, cute way to become a real dragon trainer.

They are one of the staple “Introductory” reptiles due to their reasonable cost, comparatively low-cost initial startup, and easy upkeep. Bearded Dragons, when healthy and raised with love and socialization can become a wonderful study buddy and lord over their domain with their judgmental faces (they aren’t upset, they just have a permanent angry face).

If you are looking for a quiet companion to keep you company and judge the quality of your homework, then Bearded Dragons might just be the pet for you!

10 Quick Tips for Success

1.      The tank should be at least 55 gallons

2.     There needs to be a Hot zone (90°+) A warm zone (~80°) and a Cool zone (~70°)

3.     Have a water dish large enough for the dragon to submerge itself in.

4.     Heat lamps should be on for at least 10 hours a day for adults, 12 hours for baby dragons.

5.     Paper towels or tile are amazing for easy cleanup and cheaper than reptile carpets

6.     Make sure any food you give is not larger than the width between your dragons’ eyes.

7.     Greens like kale and collard greens are excellent, along with butternut squash and carrots.

8.     For babies, give calcium powder ~4-5 days a week, 1-2 days a week for adult dragons.

9.     For a happy, social dragon, handle it for at least 15 minutes every day.

10.   Hammocks are life, but make sure to have at least one hide on the Cool side of the tank.
