Technology is light while textbooks are heavy
Many children throughout the
U.S suffer from carrying heavy textbooks. It can cause serious back and
shoulder injuries. Study shows
that at least 55% of students carry heavier loads than 10% of their body
weight. According to a study of college students, “study indicated that 85% had
pain and felt the inconvenience of backpack usage”. Posture is being affected
while wearing backpacks as well. Something that can be of help to fix this
situation is the use of technology.
Listed at the bottom will show the

Here are 5 ways to help prevent
children from suffering from heavy loads of textbooks in their bags.
1. Have the school provide laptops. The
reason for this is because many schools have paper textbooks but will always
switch out to new ones because of a new edition. Having laptops is better for
paper waste.
2. Instead of a laptop, an iPad or tablet
is a greater alternative. This device is lightweight and is easy to carry
around
3. Chromebooks. These have been around
for some time and students are to use this for testing or other assignments.
Instead of sharing these every day for the next batch of students to use, it
would be great if each student were provided with one to “borrow” for the entire school year.
4. Families can also help provide their child with the use of technology.
5. Virtual learning. Zoom has been in
effect since the start of the pandemic. It has been a perfect way to instruct
students virtually.
Backpacks cause
back pain in many adolescents.
Here is a video of a school going completely paperless and having children use ThinkPads.
It’s fun to
see what peoples’ perspectives are on technology and textbooks. There have been
many ongoing debates about the same reoccurring topic.
Here,
there is a live debate on Textbooks vs. Technology. You would need to sign in
with an existing email to leave comments.
Many years
ago, we weren’t accustomed to technology because students didn’t get the chance
to. Now, fast forward to the year 2022, we are all used to technology and It will benefit those who are slowly getting into school.
Children learn the most and more quickly at a young age. This idea will help
build toward success and we will all grow together as a society. As someone
once stated, “Children are our future”. The objective is Achievable, realistic,
and timely. Achievable because students will be able to accomplish their goals
with the use of eBooks and other aspects. Realistic because this will help all
that have felt discomfort with the heavy load and reduce the likelihood of
having bad posture. Timely because now everybody can submit and finish their
work in a timely manner.
There are
Pros and Cons to all sorts of things in this world with technology being one of
them. Technology is beneficial to all ages and it
always has been. Everything we use is powered by technology. To further our
knowledge and reduce back and shoulder pain at the same time for students, it
is best to switch away from heavy loads of textbooks to tablets and laptops. This
will help not even students but all ages.
