Math Lab
The Math Lab is a tutoring center designed to assist students enrolled in lower division mathematics and statistics courses. Students may use this facility on a drop-in basis. Tutors, who provide assistance with course-related problems encountered in homework assignments and in preparation for examinations, are available at no cost. Students are welcome to come individually or as a group to get help from a tutor, no appointment needed. Students are also welcome to work on homework in the Lab and get help from a tutor if questions arise, check out textbooks or calculators, and utilize other resources. The Math Lab is located in Brighton Hall, Room 118.

Center for Science & Math Success (CSMS)
The Center for Science and Math Success at Sacramento State empowers students to achieve their personal and professional goals through equity-based programs that cultivate life-long learning skills, leadership development and a sense of belonging community. Some of their programs include:
- Peer Assisted Learning Program (PAL)
PAL classes are optional 1-unit courses available for students enrolled in gateway science and mathematics courses. PAL encourages students to learn cooperatively under the guidance of trained students, called PAL Facilitators, who have been very successful in the same course they facilitate, and have been highly trained in group facilitation and pedagogy. During each PAL session, students work in small groups with classmates on whiteboards to solve worksheet problems written by their instructors. The PAL model encourages students to develop their own understanding of the material under the guidance of an experienced facilitator.
- Science Educational Equity (SEE)
The goals of the SEE program are to improve access to quality of health care in underserved communities and to foster inclusion of diverse perspectives in science research and science education that are attentive to the needs of our pluralistic society. Perhaps most importantly, SEE strives to create a learning community in which students are expected to share their knowledge with other students, provide personal and moral support to each other, participate in academic and extracurricular activities, and expand their understanding and appreciation for the cultural experiences of all members of the SEE family.
- Commit to Study (C2S)
The C2S program provides students with a safe, non-judgmental environment where they can work on their study skills with their own personal peer mentor. Peer mentors are undergraduate students, just like you, who know what it’s like to be a stressed student and who are trained to help all students reach their full potential. You can schedule an appointment at the C2S website.
- STEM Preteaching Program
The STEM Preteaching Program is for students interested in pursuing a teaching credential and career as a middle or high school science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) teacher. The program provides students with internship opportunities in local schools that meet the field requirements for the credential program, advising for the Single Subject Matter Programs, and an opportunity to network with other pre-teaching students and educational leaders through the STEAM Pre-teaching Club.
- The Grace Project
Inspired by Lindsey Herring and her friends at Sacramento State, the Grace Project aims to promote retention and success among underrepresented students pursuing STEM degrees, by eliminating some of the financial barriers they face. STEM courses, particularly those with laboratory requirements, often burden students with additional expenses. The Grace Project alleviates financial stress by supporting students with the resources they need to be successful in their courses.
- Hornet Leadership Program
The Hornet Leadership Program (HLP) offers multiple opportunities for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) students to explore their leadership capacity and develop leadership skills. HLP encourages students to engage in socially responsible leadership with both their peers and members of the professional STEM community in the greater Sacramento region. HLP is open to all Sacramento State STEM students regardless of their college affiliation. The HLP Program provides a unique, tiered structure with flexibility for students to participate to the extent of their interests. Participating students will gain valuable skills and experiences to increase their competitiveness and preparation for workforce entry and graduate programs.
