Read: Rest of Section 2.2, beginning of 2.3, and Appendix A: Elements of Style for Proofs
- Please write down one or two items from your reading from Appendix A that you had not thought about before and/or did not think was important. We’ll chat about this at the beginning of class.
Turn in: (Solutions to or your best efforts on) 2.22, 2.23, 2.24, 2.27, 2.28, 2.32, 2.36(a,b,c,d)
- Although I’m not asking you to prove 2.29, please read it over, and know that you can use it in the future. (That theorem is something proved in our Math 108 course.)
- Note: in this book, $\mathbb{Z}$ refers to the integers and $\mathbb{N}$ refers to the positive integers (i.e. $\mathbb{N} = \{1,2,3,\ldots\}$).
- Definitely look over Problem 2.35 and the remaining parts of Problem 2.36 now, but we’ll be doing them next time.
