Read: Skim Chapter 1. Read Chapter 2. (Here’s our book.)
Problems to Try: (Write down your ideas/solutions and we’ll discuss them in class) 2.1, 2.2, 2.7, 2.8, 2.11
- Important note: typically we won’t be doing every problem from our book. However, when doing a given problem, you are allowed to utilize the results of all previous problems, even if we didn’t prove them.
- Problems 2.2, 2.7, and 2.11 are a bit vague. If you find them hard to understand, talk with classmates and see if you can get at what the problems are asking. But, you do not need to spend too much time on them; just write down your ideas.
- So you know, there are some hints in the back of the book, but please don’t look at them without trying yourself and with classmates first.
