Read: Read up through beginning of Section 3.3.3.
Turn in: 3.43, 3.44, 3.45, 3.48, 3.51(1,2,4)
- To clarify, you do not need to prove parts (3) or (5) of 3.51. When you prove (2), be careful NOT to assume \(-x = (-1) x\) as that is related to what you’re trying to prove. To show \((-x)y = -(xy)\), you want to show that \((-x)y\) is the additive inverse of \(xy\), so you are wanting to prove that \((-x)y + xy = 0\).
Extra practice: 3.49, 3.51(3,5)
