Welcome back to campus! You are receiving this email because the class schedule indicates that you are teaching a lower division course. In preparation for the Fall semester, I want to let you know about some valuable services available to your students and ask for your help. Will you please consider informing your students about the Student Tech Center (STC), located in the AIRC building?
The STC teaches students to effectively and efficiently use software required for university-level work. We teach the mechanics of software (Word, Excel, Illustrator, Photoshop, SPSS, etc.) and enhance that foundation with a focus on related design principles, processes, and standards such as use of MLA, APA, and IEEE; data cleaning; questionnaire coding; and more!
In support of teaching and learning as well as the Student Success Initiatives, I am asking you to advise your students about the Student Tech Center because the services have a high impact on students during their lower division years and beyond. Below are three ways you can help me get the word out.
1. Language for your syllabus
Support the STC by adding a description of services to your syllabus. Suggested language for your syllabus follows and you can use it as is or edit for you needs.
The Student Tech Center
The Student Tech Center (STC), located in AIRC 3007, teaches students to use software needed to complete course assignments, provides group collaboration space and prints posters for free. The STC workshops include Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, SPSS, multimedia, and more. In the workshops you will learn how to format documents for APA, MLA, etc.; create charts and graphs; manipulate and analyze data; run statistical procedures; design posters; create webpages, and more! The STC Group Lab accommodates student groups up to 8 people. Group tables are equipped with laptops and large monitors which can be shared among multiple laptops. Group tables are available on a first come, first serve basis.
The STC is open Mon-Thu from 10 am to 7 pm and Friday from 10 am to 3pm. Nooner workshops are held at 12 noon, Mon – Fri and Happy Hour workshops are held at 5:30, Mon – Thu. We are located in AIRC 3007. Go to www.csus.edu/stc to learn about all the services provided for students. You need the STC!
Bring your class to the STC Collaboration Lab for one or more of our “STC 3-Pack” workshops - a collection of workshops that help students acquire university-level proficiency in use of software and utilization of the tech resources on campus. The workshops are 50 minutes long and you bring your class to our computer lab.

3. Refer your students to our general workshops
STC general workshops are offered throughout the semester. All STC Tech Workshops are designed to help students complete their assignments. Students can learn how to make graphs in Excel, format a research paper in Word, enhance photos in Photoshop, create posters in PowerPoint, build a webpage, collaborate using Google Docs and more. A complete list and calendar of our general workshops will be posted at the end of the add-drop period.
