Go to www.overleaf.com and sign up for a free account…unless you have one already.
Make sure you are logged in to Overleaf; then go to the link below to get a $\LaTeX{}$ template:
Click on the Menu (in the upper-left corner); select “Copy Project”.
When prompted for a name, choose something like “Math 210A - Assignment 01” and click “Copy”.
Look over the code (on the left). Much of it may seem mysterious right now, but some of it will make sense.
Edit the code on the left so that the course name reads “Math 210A”, and you are the author. Press the “Recompile” button to see the changes on the right.
Delete the what I wrote in the body of the code, and replace it with the following:
Hi Josh, it’s [ insert name ]. Did you know that [ insert interesting story about yourself ]? I’ve thought a lot about how I approach mathematics, and I wanted to let you know that I think I’m strongest at [ insert a skill of yours that will help you in this course ]. I probably should also mention that I have a lot of room for improvement when it comes to [ insert “mathematical” skill that you feel you need to work on ]. Let me end by saying that I’m really [ insert feeling ] about this course.
Press the “Recompile” button, and make sure that the pdf looks beautiful.
Click on the download pdf button (second one to the right of the “Recompile” button). Save the file somewhere you can easily find it.
Make sure to write in complete sentences, use correct punctuation, and check for typos. Please be thoughtful in your responses. If you’ve done this for me before, I’d love to hear what’s new!
