Jose E. Castillo

Jose E. Castillo Dr. Castillo is a professor at San Diego State University and the director of their Computational Science Research Center (CSRC). He will give an overview of mimetic operators and will show how to use the Mimetic Operators Library Enhanced (MOLE) to solve partial differential equations (PDEs). He will also describe the Computational Science PhD program that is offered jointly by the CSRC and the University of California, Irvine. A reception with light snacks will take place before the event from 2:15-2:45pm outside Brighton Hall near the side entrance that faces Alpine Hall. For more information, see the event flyer.

New Faculty Spotlight colloquium flyer The New Faculty Spotlight Colloquium features three of our newest faculty members: Dr. Yesim Demiroglu, Dr. Vardayani Ratti, and Dr. Jessie Loucks-Tavitas. The event begins with a reception (with free food!) in Shasta 170 from 2:15–2:50pm and then moves to Sequoia 301 at 3:00pm for short research talks from each of the three speakers as well as an extended period of Q&A. Inquiry-Based Methods & Equity in STEM Courses

Photo of IBL Workshop webpage This two-part event features a public talk and 3-hour workshop on inquiry-based-learning (IBL) by Dr. Danielle Champney and Dr. Todd Grundmeier. The talk addresses the philosophy behind IBL, the numerous modes for incorporating it into the classroom, and its effectiveness for achieving more equitable outcomes in STEM courses. The workshop introduces participants to the nuts and bolts of incorporating IBL into the classroom.
